Lithium battery cathode materials contain scarce metals such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel, which are important strategic resources. Recovering these metals from used batteries effectively reduces dependence on mineral resources and ensures supply chain security. Lithium battery recycling has become an industry with significant economic value.
Applicable Material : Cylindrical lithium battery, Soft lithium battery, Hard-shell lithium battery, Positive and negative plates, Positive and negative plates, Cellphone battery
Our lithium battery recycling production line is centered around "safety, efficiency, and environmental protection." The process consists of five major stages: pretreatment, crushing and sorting, heat treatment (optional), hydrometallurgy, and material regeneration. This creates a closed loop: "battery → black powder → metal salt → recycled cathode material."

I. Core Process Flow of the Lithium Battery Recycling Production Line
Discharging: Recycled used batteries often have residual charge, and direct disassembly poses the risk of short circuits, fires, and even explosions. These batteries are typically completely discharged through saltwater immersion or low-temperature discharge.
Dismantling: For large batteries in module or pack form, automated equipment or robots first remove the outer casing, connecting cables, fasteners, and other components to remove the internal cells. Battery cells also undergo preliminary decomposition before crushing.
Crushing: The battery cells are physically broken into smaller pieces using equipment such as shredders and crushers.
Separation: Initial separation is performed using the physical properties of each component (density, magnetic properties, particle size, etc.):
Air separation: Lightweight separator fragments and some electrolyte are blown away.
Screening: Materials are separated by particle size.
Magnetic separation: Steel casing fragments and magnetic metals are removed by magnetic attraction.
Gravity separation: Density differences are used to further separate copper foil, aluminum foil, and positive and negative electrode material powders (referred to as "black mass").
Preprocessing outputs:
Black mass: The most important intermediate product, rich in valuable metals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and manganese.
Copper foil/particles.
Aluminum foil/particles.
Plastic casing/separator.
II. Key Equipment in the Production Line
Discharge Equipment: Discharge batteries, brine tanks, etc.
Crushing System: Coarse crusher, fine crusher, shredder (using inert gas protection to prevent explosion).
Sorting System: Cyclone separator, vibrating screen, magnetic separator, airflow separator, shaking table, etc.
Environmental Protection System: Exhaust gas treatment (dust removal and purification) and wastewater treatment systems are key to ensuring the factory meets environmental standards.
Automation and Control Systems: PLC, DCS, and other automated control systems ensure continuous, stable, and safe operation of the production line.
III. Technical Features of the Lithium Battery Recycling Production Line
High Efficiency: Automated control is used throughout the entire process. For example, the intelligent sorting system monitors material composition in real time and adjusts sorting parameters, increasing processing efficiency by over 30%. High Recovery Rate: Advanced processes and equipment enable a high recovery rate for valuable metals in lithium batteries, with a black powder recovery rate of ≥99% and recovery rates for metals such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel exceeding 95%.
Safety: A closed negative pressure system prevents the escape of dust and hazardous gases. Live batteries are safely discharged or crushed in an oxygen-free environment to avoid short circuits and fire hazards.
Environmental Protection: Exhaust gas is treated and optimized process design, such as combining low-temperature volatilization with pyrolysis, reduces energy consumption and minimizes environmental impact.
III. Industry Status
Huge and Rapidly Growing Market: With the explosive growth of new energy vehicles, a wave of battery obsolescence is expected in the coming years, creating enormous market potential.
Predominantly Hydrometallurgical Technology: Mainstream companies generally adopt a "pretreatment + hydrometallurgical" approach, achieving recovery rates exceeding 95%.
Significant Policy Driven: Regulations and subsidies from various governments are key drivers of industry development.
Economic Benefits: Lithium battery recycling is becoming a growing trend, and its market potential is immeasurable.
A lithium battery recycling production line is a complex system that integrates mechanical engineering, metallurgy and chemical engineering, automation and control, and environmental engineering. It is rapidly developing towards intelligent, scalable, and green processes, aiming to achieve harmless, resource-efficient, and high-value utilization of used batteries. It is a crucial component of the circular economy. With continuous technological advancements and the improvement of the industrial chain, lithium battery recycling will become a key pillar supporting the sustainable development of the new energy vehicle industry.
